The installed capacity of renewable energy in the Philippines has increased to 5.7 million KW

According to the geographical environment of the Philippines, there are 7107 islands , which are mainly composed of three island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, and frequent disasters (such as typhoons) lead to difficulties in power supply for remote islands, which cannot be connected with the main network of power companies. Improving energy efficiency, expanding sustainable power supply and meeting the needs of fast-growing economy will provide more convenience for the production and life of the whole country.

According to the report of the Philippine Business Mirror on June 3, 2021, data from the Philippine Department of Energy show that in the first quarter of 2021, the installed capacity of renewable energy in the Philippines reached 5.7 million kilowatts, an increase of 14.6% over the same period in 2020. Among them, the installed capacity of geothermal power generation is 1.928 million kilowatts, hydraulic power is 1.44 million kilowatts, solar energy is 1.096 million kilowatts, biomass energy is 789,000 kilowatts, and wind energy is 443,000 kilowatts. There are 927 renewable energy projects in the Philippines, including 407 hydropower projects, 307 solar energy projects, 87 biomass energy projects, 86 wind energy projects, 32 geothermal energy solar projects and 8 tidal energy projects.

According to the plan of the Philippine Department of Energy, by 2030 and 2040, the proportion of renewable energy in the total solar installed capacity of the Philippines will reach 37.3% and 55.8% respectively.

The energy planning of different sectors, based on meeting the economic construction, will introduce solar power into remote rural areas that have not yet been integrated into the national power grid, which will help the Philippines reduce greenhouse gas emissions and double the installed capacity of renewable energy.
